A weaving together of compositions known and new - drawing on colourful threads from Lou’s experience and observations of life. The songs speak of flight and freeze. They endeavour to reflect the fragility of human nature and nature; clay, re-birth, the elements; earth and erosion – all echoing our emotional landscapes.

INTO the BLUE album features musicians:
LOU BECKERMAN – vocals / tamboura
TERRY PACK - double bass
SIMON D’SOUZA – saxes
MERLIN SHEPHERD – clarinet
WAYNE McCONNELL - piano
DAN HAYMAN – drums /percussion
JAMES McMILLAN – trumpet / flugelhorn
BEN SARFAS – violin
‘Alongside our band’s collaborative arrangements of standards and my own compositions, there’s a song in Hebrew and one by Rachmaninov (which I’ve sung in the past as a classical piece). There’s a poem by Shelley (To a Skylark) exquisitely interpreted by Simon D’souza on soprano sax and an enduring Joni Mitchell number (Song to a Seagull) that I once sang with my guitar as a teenager. I believe a beautifully composed piece of music can transcend the style in which it is written and I think bringing these songs into the jazz arena has worked.’

‘Intimacy, depth, subtly offbeat songwriting. Lovely clarity and resonance vocally and ensemble feel to the arrangements. Music to live with.’
